What is self-leveling?
A self-leveling compound is used to level out shallow dips and humps in a subfloor, prior to installing a finished floor covering. Because self-leveling underlayment is very thin, it can be troweled out to make these small adjustments without adding an additional layer of subflooring.

For the best results, you should ensure that your floor is as level as possible. Uneven floors can cause your vinyl planks to warp or become damaged over time.
It is not recommended to lay vinyl flooring on an uneven floor, as this can cause the vinyl to crack or peel.
You can install LVP over existing wood floors, but it should be in good shape without beveled edges, raised seams, or other defects that might telegraph through.
What Is The Easiest Way To Level A Floor?
The easiest way to level a floor is to use a self-leveling compound.
There are many different types of flooring that can be used on uneven floors. Some common options include carpet, vinyl, and laminate flooring.
You certainly can use underlayment to help level a floor, but you may find that you need a thicker underlayment than usual to get the job done if your floor is severely unlevel.
How can using self-leveling underlayment save money?
Self-leveling underlayment is not inexpensive but compared to installing an additional layer of subflooring like 5/32” plywood sheets, it can save both money and time. Self-leveling underlayment does not require the fasteners, materials, or tools that an additional subfloor does, nor the effort to install them. In many situations, this makes self-leveling underlayment the most cost-effective solution for uneven floors.
